Battle of Edgehill

PACE

$xt ^^rt;as^ Sximpje, $hmti of l^^inxixilnslur^,

ROM his broad acres on the Lincohi wolds
He raised a troop of his own tenantry,
And though the weight of threescore years and ten
Had cramped his muscular force, the brave old man
Led them himself to Edgehill fight — and fell,
Bearing in head and body sixteen w^ounds.

It was a Sunday evening in October ;
The sky was cold and clear; and with the night
Came up keen breezes from the north.
